Is there any need for someone who's had no sexual contact, ever, to be tested for STDs?

How about once that person has monogomous sexual contact with a tested&clear partner? How soon should testing happen - is the yearly doc appointment okay?

Bother. Found half my answer: Yes, testing should happen.

Still wondering about how soon testing needs to happen, though.

Ideally, when we're sexually active, the general advice is to get tested around once a year, and you can just do it when you do your pap smears, to make things easy. The fact that you're with a partner who also has been tested doesn't really change your need for your own testing.

If a person has more than one partner or changes partners more than once a year, then testing more like twice a year is advised. In a longer-term mutually monogamous relationship (like, more than a couple years together), you can be tested less often than once a year -- though I'd not push it to less than once every two years, IMO -- if you like.
