Is it normal to have cramping the day after having intercourse?

Almost every time my boyfriend and I have sex, I will get cramps in my lower abdomen the next day. Depending on how often I have sex and how rough the intercourse is, it will last anywhere from 1-5 days. I'm pretty sure this has always been the case. I don't think I can remember a time when I never had cramps after sex. Also, this is the only person I have ever had sex with, and we've been sexually active together for a year and a half.

A couple of months ago, we had sex that was a bit vigorous. I had really bad cramps the next day and then my period came a week early.

I am having pretty strong cramping right now, almost as if I had menstrual cramps. I had somewhat 'rough' sex two days ago. In fact I had just recovered from a cramping episode because we had sex a week ago.

We used a condom and it didn't break, so I don't think this is a pregnancy risk.

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi tbelle.

The best thing to do in this instance would be to make a doctor's appoinment.

Cramps after sex are not something that just happens, even rough sex, but are common and can be to do with a lot of different things. If you are, or have been, on the pill, it make be to do with that, or your menstrual cycle. I can't say for sure, so making an appoinment would be your best bet.

Sorry I can't help further, but you're right; cramping after sex is not a sign of pregnancy.

I got my period the same day that I posted this thread.

I think it's odd that having sex seems to force my period to arrive a week early. But maybe it's just coincidence.
