I was just wondering if the effects of taking a birth control pill too early are comparable to that of taking it late.
For example, if one usually takes them at 10pm, but took it at 5pm, would it be comparable to taking it at 3am?

No, it wouldn't. However, if then the NEXT day, you shift time back to when you took it before, then you'd be taking that one later.

However, if you're using a combined pill (not a progestin-only pill/minipill) realize you do NOT have to take your pills at the exact same time daily for them to be effective. At the same time of day (morning, afternoon, evening) does you just fine. It just can tend to be helpful to get in the habit of taking them at a more specific time than that because that way, it's harder to space out taking them.
