Does having the stomach flu on the placebo pills affect the effectiveness of the pills? and is backup needed for the next pill pack? I know diarrhea and vomiting decrease effectiveness although what if it happens on the pills. Also, if one had sex without a barrier method prior to the bouts of stomach flu but also on the placebo week, does one need EC?

The placebo pills are inactive; they're basically placeholders. So any sort of stomach upset doesn't affect them.
The level of protection is the same during the inactive pill week as during all other weeks. Here's some information that explains this:
