You are still protected during the placebo week.
The bleeding that women get when they're on the pill is actually not a period, but a withdrawal bleed--withdrawal from the hormones. So, when you start taking the placebo (sugar) pills, your body says "Oh, okay, there aren't any hormones. I can shed the uterine lining now." So, every time you reach the sugar pill week in your pack, you will start bleeding, though it may not always be the same amount of blood, and may not always occur the first day you take a sugar pill.
So, this won't affect your withdrawal bleed for next time. It doesn't affect the pills' effectiveness. You're always protected, even when on the sugar pills. One of the primary ways birth control pills work is by suppressing ovulation, which means that there is no egg released; no egg, no possibility of pregnancy.

Using condoms and the pill simultaneously is extra insurance. The other thing about using condoms is STI protection. Have you and your boyfriend both been tested recently for STIs (sexually transmitted infections)?
If you're up-to-date with your STI testing and neither of you is engaging in sexual activities with another partner, and you choose to not use condoms, using Withdrawal is an option. You'll see that there is a process to it, especially making sure that he pulls out a while before he ejaculates, not right before.

Sounds like you're covered on the birth control front then.
STI testing is a good habit to get into when we become sexually active. It can be good to have a baseline, especially for something like oral herpes (HSV-1) that can be contracted nonsexually. It can also help you be familiar with the testing process.
Just something to think about.
