I've been on Microgestin since August (although I had a medical abortion in early September and came off the pill briefly then). Never skipped a pill, always take it around 9am each day. My periods on the pill are generally extremely light; 2 to 3 days of heavy spotting. Except for this month.

First two days seemed normal (started on the 2nd day of sugar pills), third day passed a huge clot that was similar to what was coming out of me during the abortion process. Day 4 and 5 tapered back off. So it was longer and heavier than "normal" but that happened from time to time when I wasn't on the pill too. No big deal. I'm now nearly 2 full weeks into my new pack and am still getting dark brownish discharge; similar to what I'd usually get on the first day of my period. But it's been going on for 2 weeks. Sometimes it seems to have little clots in it; sometimes I've been feeling a little crampy. It seems to oscillate with pill timing--heaviest in the morning (though I wouldn't call it heavy exactly), presumably when hormone levels would be the lowest, and then tapers off a few hours after I take my pill.

Any ideas? It's starting to get super annoying and kind of gross too. Or should I just make a gyno appt?

Are you already due for one, like it being time, or past time, for your pap smear or a round of STI testing?

And you did your follow- up care and visit post-abortion?

Okay, so sounds like this is probably just a momentary side effect of your pill, or might even be kind of the last bunch of uterine stuff working itself out post-pregnancy and abortion, which can happen.

Since you are so current with your sexual healthcare, and your partner is, too, I would say that unless the spotting gets heavier or keeps going over another few weeks, or you start earnestly feeling bad physically in some way, it is not likely anything you need to be concerned about.
