My friend accidentally chewed her birth control pill and she's worried it will reduce the pills effectiveness, will it? Does she have to take another one?, She's sure she swallowed it all.

Hi samwise,

the way I see this is that it's not very easy to know how well the pill will or will not have been absorbed into your friend's body, so to take extra medication does not sound like a good idea.

The likelihood is that it might not be working as intended... but that doesn't necessarily mean she hasn't received enough hormones, it could just as easily be the case that this could have caused an even quicker release which might be disruptive in it's own way. In which case taking one more could only make that situation worse. However it's all difficult to tell.

I can't imagine the difference will be too extreme if she's feeling ok, but it would be a good bet for her to make extra effort to use another birth control method for the rest of her cycle if she wants to be sure of preventing pregnancy and avoiding any negative effects not taking the pill correctly might have had.
