I stopped birth control about 3 months ago because the side effects were too much for me.
I had A withdrawal bleed after finishing the pack, then 2 periods in april . I was regular before I took the pill so it's creeping me out. All 3 periods have been medium-heavy and lasted 5 whole days.

I'm sexually active but ALWAYS use condoms, and withdrawal , at the same exact time without any breakage, slips or spills/ they're always put on before any kind of "physical contact".

But since my second period ended- I;ve had this weird runny discharge, It varies from brown to yellow but feels almost like a period. It doesn't look like an infection though. I've had weird cramps too.

My doctor said it may be a hormonal imbalance due to the pill and I know people say your irregular after you quit for a while- but it's been almost 3 months!!
Is any of this normal at all?

Hi Miss O,

I'm glad to hear you consulted your doctor, as that's always a good first step when exploring the reason for physical problems.

To my understanding, it can take even longer than three months for the body to establish it's own hormonal equilibrium after stopping hormonal birth control.

did your doctor do any tests to see if that discharge is a sign of infection or not?

Yes, you'd certainly know then what your infections tend to look, smell, and feel like.

If your doctor thought this was probably your body still balancing itself out, then I think that's likely what it probably is. As I said above, it really can take many many months after stopping hormonal birth control for the body to figure out what it's doing.
