Hi there!

Next week I'm traveling across times zones from east to west coast of the US. The flight is supposed to take 10-ish hours, and I've got a layover in Chicago for a couple hours. My normal time to take my combination pill is 9 pm EST, in the middle of all this travel. What's the best way to take it on time? If it makes any difference, this will also be during the first pill of a new pack. Quite confusing. Any help would be appreciated!

Also, the main issue is that I go by my phone alarm, but my phone auto-syncs to local time as soon as it gets signal. So if it goes off at nine, I'll actually be taking my pill 4 hours late. right?

This sounds like you might just have to do a little maths...

My suggestion would be: if you can work out exactly where you'll be at the time you need to take that pill... maybe you can just make a note of that instead... if at 9EST you'll be 5 hours into your journey for example, that might be when you land in chicago... you could just a have reminder on your phone that says "Take pill when I land in chicago".

Given you'll have taken it on the correct day, at least, it shouldn't effect the performance of the pill significantly, but if you're nervous you could back up with a condom for any intercourse you have during this time (which is a good plan in general if you're someone who's worried about these things).

If you're using a combined oral contraceptive, four hours doesn't make a difference, anyway.

So, ultimately, this just isn't something you have to worry about.
