Ow!!! A few days ago, I had a medium red bump appear at the base of my shaft, close to the testes. Initially, I wasn't too sure of what it was, thinking it might be a simple pimple. Tried to pop it, no avail. So I left it alone until tonight, when I started to get a little nervous about it (I'm apparently not too fond of strange, semi-painful bumps on my penis). I let my mother have a look, (as she has been in the medical field for 20+ years) and she instantly said it was an ingrown hair. Sure enough, she applied a little rubbing alcohol and a sterilized needle to the area, and found a small little hair. However, she kept digging, and managed to pull out three more classic, curled up hairs. I then doctored up the area with more alcohol and a little ointment.

However, I'm not sure if this is due to the swelling of the area or not, but it seems like my urethra feels somewhat strange. In fact, it's felt like this for a few days, since the hair has moved closer to the surface along with more pus. Is this due to the swelling of the area causing the nerves to pick up some strange feelings, or could the interior of the hair follicles of my penis somehow have gotten infected, causing a UTI? I don't really have any symptoms of a UTI, as far as I know. It doesn't burn to pee, I'm not feeling like I have to go more often than normal, I don't have any fever. Just strange feelings, not pain. Maybe I'm being a little hypochondriac about this, but it is a very important part of my body!!! Thanks guys, in advance.

HI 1079Jay,

I'm really not sure what this could be. It's more of a medical question, so maybe ask your Mom, or if you're not comfortable with that, see about getting to see another healthcare provider?
In terms of a UTI, are you experiencing any pain or burning when urinating? If so, I'd suggest getting that looked at right away, as untreated UTIs tend to get worse, not better, on their own.
