Hello!

For most of my life, I've had occasional canker sores - either on the insides of my mouth, the side of my tongue, or near my gums. They hurt but go away eventually. I find that they often occur when I start to use a new toothbrush (the sharp bristles could cause oral trauma), or if I bite the inside of my mouth or my tongue.

I have a canker sore on the side of my tongue now. It's white and it's obviously a canker sore, and it's annoying me to be honest! I might see my partner tonight, and while I know that canker sores are not contagious, I'm assuming it would make oral sex, kissing, or anything involving my tongue painful. I'm moreso concerned for him, but since I know they're not contagious, is there any way to speed up their healing? I usually drink milk and swish it around the area, which helps. I think I bit my tongue or slammed my toothbrush into it, but I'd like to try and get rid of it soon. Thank you so much for your help!

Hi copper! This is kind of outside our area of expertise, as it's more about general health than sexual health.

But, I too get canker sores (I have chipped teeth and play the saxophone so they dig into my lip a lot while I'm playing!) and I find that the "orajel" stuff really helps if you let it dry properly and form a coating over your sore. It helps to numb the pain, and it also seems to speed up the healing process quite a bit. Though do be warned, when you first but it on, it stings like high hell [Wink]
