I have been sexually active for a few weeks now and I just recently switched my form of birth control from the patch to the pill. I am visiting my boyfriend this weekend and I was wondering if sex would be safe considering I have just recently switched forms? (I was on the pill for a year and then switched to the patch fro three months and now i am back to the pill. I used the patch regularly and I picked up after my period when I would have put a new patch on with the pill.) Should I wait a cycle before having vaginal sex again?

Thanks so much!

If you started using your pill the same time you would have started a new patch, then your effectiveness should not have changed any.

Obviously, whether or not you're comfortable using either of those methods without condoms -- both as a backup per pregnancy, but also since the patch nor the pill provides STI protection -- is up to you. But if you were okay using your pill by itself, nothing's changed in terms of switching to the pill the way that you did it.

As Heather said, since you started using the pill when you would have put on a new patch, you have the protection of the pill.
