How do I know which one I am experiencing? Aren't they the same thing?

According to what I've read online, spotting is apparently normal (especially when taking birth control pills, which I do) and not a concern, but "abnormal vaginal bleeding," meaning bleeding between periods, could be caused by growths (fibroids, cysts, polyps), an infection, thyroid problem, or cancer.

My bleeding is extremely light but has lasted for 2.5 weeks now. I cannot see my doctor until Thursday, so in the meantime I don't know if I could have cancer or a condition requiring surgery??? Getting very anxious!

I should add that I very recently tested negative for STIs, although I did have a yeast infection, which cleared up with treatment. The bleeding started shortly after that.

The majority of the time, spotting is not anything to be concerned about - it's very likely that your birth control is the culprit here.

Rather than focusing on what this could be, and getting anxious about the possibilities, what would help you to deal with your anxiety?
