It's been a long time since I've been here.

I've been using the Nuvaring for several years, and really like it. This past couple months (well, this year, but specifically recently) have been pretty hard and I sort of just realized today that I haven't removed/changed my ring in a couple of months.

Normally, I'd just take it out and replace it a week later, since I'm not usually sexually active. I use it mostly for controlling my menstrual cramping.

However, I'm expecting to have some sexual activity in around 3 weeks. I'm wondering if I can depend on the ring for protection, and if so, what I should do (remove for 1 week, reinsert? remove until I start a withdrawl bleed, reinsert? something else?). If I can't, that's fine and I'll find another backup method or choose my sexual activities accordingly. Just wondering what makes sense.

If you have a ring inside that has been there for over a month, you'll want to take that out asap. It's not doing anything for you at this point per protection.

Since this basically means that you've been without protection for the past month, I would say that inserting a new ring now is basically a re-start, and you'll want to use back-up protection for at least the first entire week.

Thanks Joey.
That was my thought too. Basically like starting from nothing, again.
