Lately I've seen articles about this STI in the news because of the danger that it's becoming drug resistant.

Many of the articles mention that gonorrhea is killed by saliva, and therefore cannot be spread during cunnilingus (but can be spread during fellatio because of throat contact). This is not something I've heard before, and wanted to verify...?

(One source comes from "The New Yorker" which I know to be pretty reliable)

The Centers for Disease Control And Pervention (CDC) don't appear to be making this distinction between types of oral sex and the levels of gonorrhea risk they pose. Here is their fact sheet on gonorrhea:

http://www.cdc.gov/std/gonorrhea/stdfact-gonorrhea.htm

The CDC's Web site has a lot more information on gonorrhea, including the research and medical responses based on the new drug resistant strains.

As always, if one wishes to reduce one's risk of contracting (or transmitting) any STI one will want to use safer sex practices, which include using barriers for all oral-genital contact.

Ok, I suppose the CDC has the most updated and accurate information then?

If so, it's definitely not good that sources like the New Yorker and Jezebel are publishing incorrect facts!

The CDC is a far better and more up-to-date source of information than any magazine or news website, so go with the information they have posted rather than what you've read in the New Yorker or at Jezebel.
