My boyfriend and I might begin to have vaginal intercourse soon and I was thinking of using many forms of protection against pregnancy. Firstly, I am on birth control. I use the Ortho Evra patch and I am very good about changing my patch because it is a simple once a week thing. Secondly, we would use a condom. Thirdly, I was interested in trying to use a spermicide as an added layer of protection. Is it ok to use all of these methods of contraceptives at once and would this greatly reduce the risk of unwanted pregnancy? Thanks in advance [Smile]

Hi Rldove,
Can I ask why you want to use a third form of protection? If you are on birth control and have been taking it regularly for more than a few months, you should be covered against pregnancy. Using condoms as well is always a good step, especially as the patch does not protect you against STIs.
But I see no reason to add another form of birth control to that. If you are using your birthcontrol and the condom correctly, you will not be at risk for pregnancy.

Also, please read about spermicide here:

If you need not already have two forms of protection, I would still not consider spermicide the best option for back-up, for a number of reasons- most listed in the article above.
