I've searched, but can't find the answer to my question (:

On Tuesday 8th of May, I had surgery on my knee, and stopped taking the pill a week before this.

I've been on the pill for almost two years now (Microgynon 30ED), and was just wondering how to go about restarting.

Since I started taking the pills due to irregular periods, and I've had a period since stopping the pill, can I just restart with a new pack next week?

Firstly, I can't get the pills until tuesday and usually start them on a monday, will it be affected if I take them a day late? Should I just take 2?

Secondly, will I be fully protected after a full pack of pills?

Thanks (:

Ideally, you can just check in with your doctor who prescribes your pill for you.

But if you can't do that, if you have very irregular periods, then yes, you can just restart any time, in which case there is not "late." In other words, no matter when you start now, it'd be starting late, really, since you haven't taken them on schedule for a while. And no, you don't need to take two starting the way you want to. You just won't be taking pills on the right day as marked on the package, if you get me.

So long as you use a backup method for the first pack of pills, by the next pack, if you feel comfortable using only the pill for BC, you'll have it at full effectiveness so long as you take your pills properly moving forward.
