I'm a female and I occasionally find dark, terminal hairs on my chin. Is this normal or is it a sign of a hormone imbalance?

It can be, but it also doesn't have to be. Sometimes that's just genetics. Are other people in your family dark-haired or a bit heavier with body hair (talking about women here).

My mom does have heavier body hair and occasional facial hairs but I thought it might just be because of her age.

If you do, and she does, that's probably more because of genetics than because of age. (As we get older, btw, we tend to lose body hair more than gain it, even if a couple hairs show up in places they haven't before.)

Does she have PCOS or some other imbalance? Do you have any other issues besides these hairs that might suggest something up with hormones, like very light or very heavy periods, a lot of menstrual pain, depression or other mood issues or anything else?

no, she doesn't. I do have relatively heavy periods, but I don't think they're severe enough to actually be called heavy, if you know what I mean.

So, sounds like this is most likely just about normal genetics. When people have hormone issues to the level they need treatment, they tend to be experiencing way more than a funky hair or two now and then. [Smile]
