hi me and my girlfriend had sex and now my girlfriend is about to be 8 days late with her period. at first we had sex without a condom but then i started using one and i combined it with the withdrawal method. i know that having sex without a condom adds risk but i also do understand that if pee before having sex it washes away the the sperm in the pre cum if it does have sperm. and also there was one time when we had sex i ejaculated inside her but i was using a condom and i checked the condom and there were no holes. why is my girlfriend's period late? please reply asap! thank you!

Anytime we have the kinds of sex that can create a pregnancy, pregnancy is a risk. If we're going to have those kinds of sex, we can reduce those risks with various methods of contraception. When we do, how much the risk is reduced depends on the kind of contraception we use and how well we use it.

You used condoms and withdrawal, so you likely reduced your risks. But you didn't use the condoms properly, and withdrawal is one of the two least effective methods of contraception there is.

Therefore, since her period is late, I'd say she should go ahead and take a pregnancy test to be sure that's not why it's late.

That's understood -- and valid -- to be what will usually happen. However, withdrawal, like all other methods, still isn't 100% effective. In perfect use, it's 96% effective (which is lower than most other methods), and in typical use, it's 73-82% effective (also lower).

So, if you and your partner really don't want to create a pregnancy, it is not the best method to use. Better bet? First of all, start using those condoms properly, which includes wearing them the whole time through: they're more effective at preventing pregnancy, and they also protect you both from infections.

And if condoms alone don't feel like enough, your partner can look into other, more reliable methods of contraception than condoms or withdrawal.
