does ibs..irritable bowel syndrome..affect the absorption of bcps?

That depends on what kind of symptoms of IBS you experience. If you frequently suffer from diarrhea and/or nausea, then the birth control pill may not be an ideal choice for you. In that case, if you want to use hormonal bc, you can look into alternatives such as the Patch or the Ring, that do not involve your gastrointestinal tract.

so its the diarrhea aspect of the ibs, not the ibs itself that causes malaborption?

IBS affects everyone differently, so by all means, you will want to discuss your choices for birth control with your gastroenterologist to cover all your bases.

But the main issue with taking oral bc for people who suffer from IBS is that frequent diarrhea could potentially impact the effectiveness of the pill.
