so my boyfriend and i engaged in manual sex tonight. we're sexually active and have both been screened (and are negative for) STDs. i had my last gyno exam in december and everything checked out a-okay. i started bleeding lightly after we finished. i should have finished my period on saturday (and am normally quite regular). i'm thinking we were a bit too rough. does this seem legit? i'm also thinking we should not fool around for a few days because of this.

thanks so much! this is a great website. i'm an residential assistant at a college and i've recommended it to a lot of my residents.

There are a handful (no pun intended) of reasons why a woman might have bleeding after insertive -- as in, a partners fingers went inside your vagina -- manual sex. Not using lubricant or enough of it, not being aroused enough before entry, a partner having callouses, hangnails or fingernails that scratched that tissue, some stretching of the tissue around your vaginal opening, the works. Too, if you just had your period, sometimes orgasm can result in a bit of leftover blood or endometrium working its way out.

If the bleeding isn't anything severe, so long as you just lay off anything in your vagina for a few days, you should be fine.
