Been with my gf for 3 years and we're going to France in two weeks. Its likely we'll both lose our virginity. She's been on the pill for two years (medical reasons) and has a routine of taking it, but we're wondering if a 10 hour flight with a major time change and the excitement of being in Europe is enough to make us worry it wont be effective and make us use a backup method for the first time.

What is the general rule about taking the pill when going across a bunch of time zones?

Any advice would be appreciated. Info/links to condom would be great too. Do you just buy the expensive ones to be safe?

It's always a good idea to use a backup, anyway. A condom is pretty cheap, so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle. Either way, it helps prevent STI transmission. [Smile]

As far as taking her pill is concerned, she should take it at the same time she would back home. So, if she takes it at Noon in Kentucky, she'd take it the relative time there. For example, Kentucky is -6 hours Greenwhich Mean Time (GMT). If where you are in France is +1 hour GMT, she'd take it 7 hours after her normal time. 12 Noon home, 7pm wherever you are. Does that make sense?

In other words, the body doesn't really care about clock time. That's a human invention for convenience. It cares about the same time according to it's own biological clockwork.
