i have just visited my doctor about regulating my periods and i have been put on birth control. I also have a b/f and concidering having sex. how long do i have to be on the pill before i should have sex to be safe??

We recomend waiting one full cycle before you rely on the pill to be effective for preventing pregnancy. As long as you're taking your pills correctly after that, you can consider yourself protected.
Don't forget, however, that the pill does not protect against STIs, and unless you and your boyfriend have both received full STI screenings (preferrably two full screenings, 6 months apart), you should still use condoms for STI prevention. Condoms also add extra pregnancy protection, if you'd like to double-up methods, as well.
