I'm really confused about my gender identity lately. Sometimes I feel "feminine", sometimes "masculine", sometimes anywhere in between. I'm from a small, conservative Midwest town, and I don't have anyone to talk to about this. I feel like I have to censor myself all the time, and it's killing me.

Has anyone else been here? Any good advice? Please, I need a way to deal with this.

Welcome to the boards, ganymede! I definitely can identify with that, I'm similarly confused at the moment as... a feminine man, I guess (pesky words).

I'm more from the outskirts of a big city, so things aren't so bad. There's certainly anonymity, most people I live around don't know me, although being at a small university (about 3000) I'm more or less the only transgender-dressing student I'm aware of - even our LGBT community only comes to a couple of dozen at most. That can be pretty tough.

Would you like to tell us a little more about your situation? I'm hoping this can be a supportive space for you to talk if you'd like.

“In a strange room, before you are emptied for sleep, what are you. And when you are filled with sleep you never were. I don’t know what I am. I don’t know if I am or not... how often have I lain beneath rain on a strange roof, thinking of home.”

I totally know what you mean. I'm kind of semi-out. I've told people, but they always seem to misunderstand, or ignore it or dismiss it as invalid. The best thing to do now is just remember who you are. I would suggest seeing an experienced councellour.
