I was hoping to be able to skip my upcoming period, but I want to make sure that I do it right, and that the effectiveness won't be compromised. I am on Ortho Tri-Cyclen, which has 3 weeks, all with different hormone levels. I looked at the following website, but found myself more confused than before. http://thewelltimedperiod.blogspot.com/2005/01/skip-period-regimens.html The last time I was seen by my nurse practitioner, I had asked her a little bit of general information about it, but didn't get exact directions from her. She did say that since this brand isn't specifically made to skip periods, that changing it might decrease the effectiveness, or cause breakthrough bleeding. Although I would really like to skip this month's period, I am also not sure if I'm willing to risk the effectiveness level. I guess I just need some clarification of how I would go about doing this, and if what I have read and been told so far is accurate. Thanks!

When people use the pill to suppress menstruation, what they do is take the active pills back to back, skipping the placebo week.
In other words, you take the three weeks of active pills, then start a new pack right away, not taking a placebo week until after you have taken the three weeks of actives from THAT pack.
While you still get a withdrawal bleed or spotting regardless (no matter what brand of pill you use), and we have only limited studies about this per health, especially for younger people, it is NOT in any way linked with making the pill less effective.
the only thing per not taking pills that presents effectiveness issues with BCPs is skipping any of the active pills or shortening the active pills (like, taking two weeks, not three).
