Hey, I've been on the pill for about the past two years because my periods were too heavy and i wasnt having sex so i didnt need it for contraception. Because I didnt need it for contraception, i didnt always take it on time and sometimes i might even miss the odd day and although it was wrong, it didnt matter a huge amount. i've started having sex in the past month or so and i've gotten my period yesterday. if i take my next packet after the seven days, will be protected against pregnancy or will i have to wait since i wasnt taking it properly before?
thanks :-)

In the current cycle of pills you are in, have you been taking them properly? And does your withdrawal bleed look like usual?

In terms of the next pack, if you have NOT been taking your pills on time, I would advise waiting a minimum of seven days of doing so before going without a backup method. But remember: pregnancy isn't your only risk. Are you and your partner going without condoms? If so, have you already been using them for six months of monogamy before now AND full STI screens for you both?
