My girlfriend is on the Pill (diane 35) in which she takes a pill for 21 days, and then 7 days off, then starts up again for 21 days etc. During those 7 days that she's not taking a pill, is she still protected? The instructions say yes, but i have my doubts.

Yes, your girlfriend is protected even during those seven "no pill" days. For a detailed description of how different kinds of birth control pills work, see this site:

That said, the pill does NOT protect against sexually transmitted diseases and a back-up plan is always a good idea. Here at Scarleteen we strongly recommend using condoms and lube every time you have sex, as well as other safer sex tools. Check out this article:
