This is pretty disgusting.

While (although I am not vegan or vegetarian)I completely support their support for vegan-ism, I think it is completely crossing the line.

I know the basic message they were trying to get across was "being vegan is sexy". I think they definitely missed their mark.

I personally dumped my support of PETA a few years ago when I just pretty much hit the wall with their sexism and racism. [Frown]

I have other issues with them, but I agree, where they have gone the last few years is just really beyond the pale. And for me, it shows a basic lack of understanding human rights, and I feel like if you can't grok that, you can't really grok animal rights, either.

And you are vegan, aren't you?

Do you feel like PETA is causing vegans to lose "credibility" with everyone else because of it's stunts?

For the most part, yep. Due to some serious health issues, though, a yearish ago I had to add eggs (though only do local, not factory farmed) and occasional fish. Not what I'd want, but then the alternatives weren't any better, so.

And I do think that at this point, and for a while now, that PETA has hurt the issue more than helped, unfortunately.

Sorry you've had to make a choice between your principles and your health [Frown] Though of course if you're doing what you can to buy ethically produced stuff then that's helping with animal rights too. Sorry if this sounds patronising it's just I've gone through a lot of complex stuff around eating and ethics (WRT both human rights and animal rights), and I empathise.

And yeah, I agree with you both, that ad is sexist. Plus I think "vegans make better lovers" is seriously ironic coming from them (PETA, not vegans in general), because part of being a good lover is empathy and compassion for your partner, and they come from a place that's all about prejudice and shaming when it comes to humans, so...

As someone who comes from a farm, I abandonned PETA to their own ignorance ages ago. I believe in animal welfare. A huge proportion of farmers treat their animals VERY WELL. PETA makes themselves out to be a bunch of ignorant, offensive, judgemental, predjudiced and just downright innacuate people, and I have no patience for them whatsoever.

Like Lauren, I also come from a farming background. PETA has always gone for shock value and doesn't have a problem using violence to do so. If someone wants to support animal welfare they should support people like Temple Grandin, not radicals like PETA.
