Can anyone recommend some literature that contains lesbian characters with functional relationships? I know it seems weird, but I've been looking for books, and so far I haven't really found anything. I know it's not the most common topic, but if anyone has read a good book lately, please recommend! Um... doesn't precisely fit the bill, but Orphea Proud is pretty good. That is the ONLY book in this category in my public library; I'll definitely be checking back at this list to get ideas.

"Annie on my Mind" by Nancy Garden. It's a YA book, but absolutely wonderful. It was the one book on that shelf of my library that looked neutral enough for me to feel confident checking it out (I was 15 and so closetet at that point), and I read it over and over again until I had to take it back.

Thanks, that's helpful. :-)

Do you think I'd get more responses if I posted this question in the "Sexual Literacy" forum, or does that violate the whole re-posting thing?

Either way: we can move it if you want.

I'm also a big fan of Rita Mae Brown's books, have heard great things about Crashing America by Katia Noyes, and Lori Lake's work for those fond of romance-y stuff.

Well, someone in the Girl Goddess #9 thread that you started linked in their signature to the Toronto Women's Bookstore, so I took a few suggestions from there too. But how does one move a thread to a different area?

Well, I'm sure that there are lots of others out there looking for this sort of literature, so this is the web site that i was looking at: http://www.womensbookstore.com/

Not only did I find books about lesbian/bisexual relationships, I also found books on being Jewish and queer, which is a subject that I didn't know I was interested in until I found it. ^_^ Even if I don't buy from here, I have a good list to take with me to the library.

If you're in NYC, you know about Bluestockings, yes?

If not, you really should: http://www.bluestockings.com/

Even if it means a little bit of a haul from a burrough, I assure you, it's well worth the trip.

there was a book published years ago by Lynne Cheney (yes, the same wife of) called Sisters. but it was quickly removed from the shelves, to save embarrassment to the party. Apparently there are second hand copies floating around...
