This is kind of embarrassing...but I'm an 18 year old virgin and last night me and my boyfriend tried to "get it in" and his penis wouldn't fit?! I thought I had already broken my hymen, I mean I've used tampons for 2-3 years now and when I masturbate (haven't used dildos/vibrators) I'm fine, no pain...I've even used those tiny egg vibrators and I'm fine but yesterday an actual penis wouldn't fit....could it be that I haven't broken my hymen yet? It hurt a lot and I was lubricated, so I decided to stop... I was aroused though.... is this normal?

Did you make sure you engaged in other activities that aroused you before attempting intercourse?

Were you really relaxed? Because if you are nervous you can tense up and make penetration more difficult.

Also, you said you were lubricated, but it is always a good idea to use extra lube and add more as needed.

I really do not think that your hymen (now called the corona) factors into this at all. If you have been using tampons, and thus menstruating, your hymen would already have been not fully intact. Too, the hymen doesn't "break" but rather gradually wears away over time.
