I went to get my 4th pap smear today (I've been getting them since I was 16), and it hurt. It felt like I had period cramps when they touched my cervix. She was a lot rougher than my original gyno. (She's not an actual gyno, just a doctor from my student health center who has knowledge in this field). Is it normal to feel those crampy feelings?

I didn't have any burning or stinging, just felt like period pains. [Frown]

Not everyone is good at doing GYN exams or pap smears. How sensitive the cervix is can also change during different times of our cycle.

Did you tell her it hurt? Did she find anything wrong?

She said everything looked pretty normal, no abnormal discharge or inflammation. I just told her it felt like period cramps, and she apologized and kind of went softer.

Okay. So, sounds like nothing to worry about, you just got someone who might need some more practice doing GYN exams. Sorry you had to find out with your vagina! [Razz]

Haha, I know, it's too bad. One more question ... I had a smidge of brown-ish discharge today. VERY VERY VERY light brown. Can that happen when you get a pap? I only saw it when I wiped once.

It can: sometimes spotting happens after a pap smear.
