Yesterday I noticed a brownish stain on my pantiliner. I'm expecting my period in about a week, so I think it's just spotting, but I don't normally spot. I know I'm not pregnant, because I had my period right on schedule last month and I haven't been sexually active since. Is this spotting, and is it normal to spot only very occasionally?

Yep, sounds like spotting to me. And yes, spotting can happen on occasion. Sounds completely normal.
