We recommend using a secondary method of birth control (such as condoms) for the first month while you are on the pill. Now it is important that you are aware that there are things (such as antibiotics) that can affect the effectiveness but all of that can be found in the little information booklet that comes with the birth control.
So, don't worry, it's not 3-6 months! Good Luck!
