Brownish tinged discharge just before or just after menstruation is a common occurrence for many women. Some women itís a day or two after, some itís a week. For other women thereís a brownish tinged discharge at the two-week point between periods (spotting) as the body does itís job in clearing out any unneeded substances from the body (in this case old blood) which has turned brown because it had been shed a while before now.
That said, discharge that is non-typical and generally is the sign of an infection are chunky or very heavy, be very watery or consistently profuse, have a strong odor, or be grayish, greenish, pinkish or yellow. If any of these signs show at any time itís a good idea to make an appointment with your gyn. to rule out infections and illnesses.
