alcohol poisoning happens when a person takes too much alcohol into their body. when it comes down to it, alcohol is toxic to our bodies, but if taken in smaller amounts, this toxicity doesn't kill us, but rather makes us kinda slow.
Alcohol is a depressant. It slows down your brain functions. If you take in too much alcohol, your brain can be so slowed down that it will STOP. if it stops, you DIE.
But if you don't get to that point, it still does some bad things. Your liver has to break down alcohol so your body can flush it out. If you put too much alcohol into your liver, some of your liver cells will start to die off. Your liver will get scarred and inflamed, and in the long run, you can develop cirrhosis, or your liver can fail. If your liver fails, you better hope you make it to the top of the transplant list, otherwise, you will die.
Other bad thing about alcohol: it makes people do stupid things. We've had too make users post here that they passed out due to alcohol, and found themselves being raped. Or if they didn't pass out, they had sex with someone they would not wanted to have sex with if they were thinking straight. A HUGE percentage of rapes in women under 25 involve excessive alcohol consumption. And ifyou have sex while drunk, you're so much less likely to use condoms, and that much MORE likely to get an STD. Sex and booze are a bad combination!
Right now, in Orange County, CA, there's a trial going on involving 3 teenage boys who allegedly got a girl drunk to the point of unconciousness. They alledgedly proceeded to gang rape her and sodomize her with a pool cue, beer bottle and some other objects. If convicted, these guys face 55 years in prison.
So yeah, binge drinking is some seriously bad stuff, and people need to learn to quit when they've had enough.
btw, i'm gonna move this to Gen Health and Nutrition.
