Hey everyone! I work in an HIV/STD prevention/testing center, and we noticed the other day that one of the flyers posted on the board used the term "Gender queer" none of us, including the head counselor, have ever heard the term before, and we could only guess what it means... I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who knows what it means, we were all stumped! Thank you, Jen

Genderqueer is a term that some people use to describe people who do not live in ways that are socially and/or cosmetically congruent with their biological sex.
Genderqueer identification can include people who are androgynous, femme men, butch women, crossdressers, and transsexuals (often particularly people who are in the process of a transition), as well as people who are intersexed or intergendered.

thanks so much! I'm going to read that article now, and print this stuff out to bring in to the office (prbably along with the intergender information too, that's really interesting) Jen
