I found this forum a few days ago with the help of my 26 year old daughter. She saw a flyer for it posted in the student center of UC Berkeley and sent me an email about it. The first night I spent about 6 hours just reading through a lot of the advice and messages, and I began to remember what is like to be a "young person" when sex was my biggest problem.
I'm a retired medical service professional. I have a degree as a Certified Registered Medical Assistant (RMA-C) and am still a member of the American Medical Technologist Association in good standing, have been for 16 years. I have my B.S. in Human Relations, and I'm a member of the Society for Scientific Study of Sex (www.sexscience.org) for the last 8 years. This is a legitimate non-profit organization for those in the field of Human Relations, it is highly recommend for anyone who can qualify for their membership. Although I am not certified as a sexologist or advisor, I've had a little experience through the years with sex. I've raised two well adjusted daughters to become young women, and one son that was a test project gone wrong. I'm retired now, as product of a disabling auto accident a few years ago. As a result I have written several papers regarding sex and the disabled; and they have been quoted in articles in national magazines. I am married for the last 12 years to a wonderful woman and accomplished physician with whom I worked most of my professional career. She helped raise two very rebellious step daughters all the while juggling a career and a new marriage. She is my rock.
While I've been very careful and very general on the few posts I've made, I can see where someone with more education would do well here as a counselor. The sexual inexperience of many of the visitors here is startling, until I think back more than 30 years ago to how I was. The only thing that stays the same is how much we all change over time. Convincing someone of that is the greater work. As the French are famous for saying, Bonne chance avec la tâche impossible.
