So it's not me who needs it , but my friend just had a baby about a month ago and everything was going good with her and her boyfriend until he filed for custody of their baby boy . She's bought everything for the baby, cribs, strollers, carseats, you name it. He has diapers , and a portable stroller at his house. But the question is : Would the judge grant full custody to the father of the baby? Is it fair to both the mother and the child for them to go through that?
I've read online that it is unhealthy for the child and the mother (if she is breast feeding ) to stop before he/she is before the 6month mark. Is that true?

Hi Jazzygirl,

Custody battles and infant health (both physical and emotional) are not our areas of expertise here at Scarleteen so it would not be sound for us to discuss or offer opinions on this.

If your friend herself needs help and support as a young parent, she's certainly welcome to come here herself.

I know you're worried about your friend and her son, but do know that in the majority of cases custody hearings take everything into account, including what each parent can provide (and has provided) when making their determinations.

In terms of your question about breastfeeding, it might help to remember that many babies are not breast fed at all. in fact, for years, breastfeeding was not the "in" thing to do.

No problem.

I know it must be really tough to watch your friend going through this.
