On June 7th my boyfriend and I found out I was pregnant. We discussed our options and decided an abortion was the best way to go. I'm 18 and still have 3 years of college to go, and he's 21 and just getting started with his own career.

The problem is I don't want an abortion at all. I know it's the best thing for the both of us because everything I'm working towards right now will have to completely stop and I don't want to throw my life away...but I'm scared. I know it's not actually a baby or a living thing yet, but knowing that it could be one day is really freaking me out.

My boyfriend isn't pressuring me to get an abortion, but I know he's not ready to be a dad even though if it were necessary he would be able to support a kid financially. I guess what I'm saying is I'm having second thoughts and I don't know what to do? I'm terrified an abortion will hurt and I'm so scared I'll regret it later.

Hi Moon-Bandits,

I know these are really difficult choices for you right now. An unwanted pregnancy is not, for most people, an easy thing to deal with.

Can you fill me in on where you are in the process? That is, do you have an appointment scheduled with a healthcare provider? If so, have you discussed your fears with them?

When you and your boyfriend discussed your options, did you also talk about adoption and whether or not that would be something that would work for you?

The unknown is always scary, so I certainly can understand that you fear how you'll feel about this in future. It also sounds to me like you're pretty clear that you don't see your future right now as including a child.

IN terms of your fears about abortion, do you think that having more information about the procedure would be helpful to you?

Moon-Bandits: I also want to make sure that in making these choices, you're starting with factual information about them, including factual information on abortion, okay? We're going to support anyone here in whatever reproductive choice they decide is best for them, no matter what, but know that many people have information about abortion that isn't based in fact.

So, if that's something you may want, and want to check in about the facts so you can know them per making your choices here, you might want to at least take a look at this: All About Abortion
