I wasn't really sure where this belonged, soo...

Hello everyone. Just a few minutes ago, my best friend called. I decided not to pick up the phone. We aren't fighting or anything, I just didn't feel like being on the phone. But sometimes I feel like society insists that this is rude. I've never felt an obgligation to pick up the phone just because we aren't fighting, or I don't know you. I don't think it's 100% necessary to pick up the phone when it rings. That's my opinion...but I was wondering what you all thought. Do you think it's rude not to pick up the phone when it rings (if you know them...say, a family member, friend, etc.)? Or does it not really matter to you (i.e. you can call them back later, if it's important they'll keep calling, etc.)?

I have ignored my telephone plenty of times. I used to just hang up on people if they called me during 'The Simpsons.'

If you don't want to talk, then just let it go and call back when you're better able to chit-chat. If the call is really dire important, then your friend can leave a voicemail.
