SO I have this friend. she has been feeling generally not well recently. she went to the doctor, and after she went to the doctor she told me about her symptoms. she said she has 2 sores on her genitalia. i asked if they were simply ingrown hairs, and she stated that they are definately some sort of infections. anyways, the doctor automatically told her it was herpes, and then asked her about her sexual health. she has not had unprotected oral sex in over 6 weeks, and she has never had unprotected intercourse. the doctor said that herpes symptoms only show up 2 weeks after exposure. i was wondering, is this true or could she have herpes? they did a herpes test, and the results should be back next week. another thing the doctor said is that these sores could be from Mono? i told her i had never heard that, and i had no sores at all when I had mono. Has anyone else heard about herpes-like sores being caused by mono? what do you think? thanks everybody

Yes, mono can cause skin lesions in rare cases, but i'd be far more inclined to believe it was herpes.
sorry to say it, but condoms cannot fully protect against genital herpes. always use a condom -- it's better than nothing, they offer SOME protection. But because herpes is transmitted by skin to skin contact, condoms cannot protect all that surface area.
usually, herpes outbreaks come up 2 or 3 weeks following infection. but it can take longer in some folks, or the first outbreak might just have gone unnoticed (although in most people, the first outbreak is the most severe). Outbreaks are also sometimes accompanied by flu-like symptoms, which can explain why your friend felt so lousy.

thanks gumdrop! one more thing, besides feeling generally not well and tired, she has no other symptoms of mono. when i had mono, my glands and tonsils were HUGE! i'm just trying to help her get through this one day at a time..
