A week ago my boyfriend and I engaged in manual sex. Before fingering me I told him to go and wash his hands with soap and water and dried them, just to make sure he got everything off. He came and fingered me then. After he was done, I gave him a handjob and his sperm got on my hands. I went to the bathroom and washed it all off with the same antibacterial soap and water and dried them also. A few minutes later I used the toilet and wiped with toilet paper. When I got home a while later I washed my hands again and then washed my private parts with soap to get everything off.
I was wondering if I have any chance of a pregnancy risk because I think I was ovulating during that time. I also used the planned parenthood chat online function and the advice volunteer that I spoke to said that she wasn't sure if all the sperm would be gone from washing but that I am at a low risk for pregnancy. Veronica: I can't say for sure that all of the sperm would be gone. But it is very unlikely that this would cause a pregnancy.
So does washing with soap and drying afterwards completely get rid of sperm? Am I at risk?? I'm really really worried!

No, that is not a pregnancy risk. Sperm are not that hearty, and while it only takes one sperm to fertilize an egg you really need a lot of semen and a lot of other sperm to make it all the way to an egg for that one sperm to get you pregnant.
Additionally unless you faithfully and correctly track your cycles and have for many months then you really cannot be sure that you were ovulating or not.

I just read the article but it doesn't say whether sperm dies on contact with soap and water. Could you answer that part of my question also please.

Sperm do not survive too well outside the body. So soap and water would certainly wash away or kill the sperm. Most of the sperm are just being washed away by the water.
But, yes, soap does kill sperm by disrupting the cellular membrane.
The thing is that you don't need to worry about killing every single sperm. Human sperm are motile, which means they move on their own, but they NEED semen to move in. They can't just swim around on their own. They need pretty specific conditions to function properly, so if one or two sperm HAPPENED to live through the trauma of hot water and soap and drying on a towel (which is WAY unlikely) they would still not have the semen to function in, and would die.

How long can sperm survive for in air? I'm basically asking that if I had washed my hands and after about 45 minutes touched my vagina to wash it, would it pose as a risk? Also if my boyfriend had sperm on his hands before he washed his hands and fingered me, if a few sperm had survived wouldn't they have been able to travel through my vagina? Or would the walk from the bathroom to the bedroom been enough for them to die in the air?
Sorry I had a similar situation to jap15 so I thought I would add to the questioning

so are you saying that even if a few sperm had survived that if the surface that they were on, such as my hands or my boyfriends, was dry, then there is no way they could have swam up and caused pregnancy?

Yes. Even if a few sperm were not killed it is not a pregnancy risk. His hand would literally need to be covered in fresh, wet semen in order to possibly get you pregnant from fingering.
Sometimes when our minds are so worried about "risks" that aren't really risks it's really their way of saying "slow down! You aren't quite ready to be doing that yet." Are you sure that you want to be doing these things sexually at this point in your relationship?
