Hi there,
It's important to understand that quite a few STDs can be transmitted nonsexually--that means that you can have STDs even if you've never been sexually active. For example, HPV, a leading cause of cervical cancer, can be symptomless but still be transmitted to others--so you can't just "tell" if someone has an STD. Even STD testing doesn't make you completely "clean" because STD testing cannot accurately test for all STDs. And as a teenager, you're at the highest risk for a STD, so it's not a risk to take likely, for you or your partner.

Now, just so you know, hormonal contraceptives are effective all throughout your cycle. But by pairing up condoms and birth control, you'll lower your pregnancy risk to nearly as low as you can get while still being sexually active with your partner. It's good to have peace of mind.
