I was just curious about taking plan b while on the pill. I haven't missed a pill, and of the times I've had sex this month, he's pulled out. But I've considered taking plan b, just to be safe. I've read some of the articles, and they say that my chances of pregnancy are very slim--about 98% with typical use.

Basically, would taking plan b help at all in this situation? Or would it just be overkill?

Generally, emergency contraception isn't considered necessary if another reliable form of contraception has been used properly, which it sounds like you have: the pill (if you've also taken it at the correct time). In fact, it sounds like you've used the pill with withdrawal, which has a slightly lower chance of pregnancy than just the pill by itself.

Here's an article that has the statistic for using the pill and withdrawal together, and also says a little about using, or not using, emergency contraception with other hormonal methods. http://www.scarleteen.com/article/reproduction/the_buddy_system_effectiveness_rates_for_backing_up_your_birth_control_with_a_s

Also, emergency contraception is effective only 120 hours after a risk, and gets progressively less effective within that time-frame.

Alright, thank you for that! I think I might go ahead and buy a pack of plan b, just in the event that something does go wrong. But I don't want to take those extra hormones unless absolutely necessary, you know?

Generally, Plan B and the pill do the same things to prevent pregnancy, so taking Plan B while on the pill isn't ordinarily going to be considered any more effective than being on the pill itself.

Since you're thinking from a preventative standpoint, I would suggest backing the pill up with another birth control method if you're going to be engaging in any sexual activity that could potentially lead to pregnancy.
