Do you have to attempt suicide to be sent to the mental hospital, or can you just go because you have the feeling you're about to (and don't want to)? I mean, I'm seriously thinking about going because suicide is for wusses, but even so, thinking about it is getting very old for me... I can't take this f***ing pain anymore, I'm scared I'm going to kill myself. Help me please Posts: 3 | Registered: Feb 2003

sounds like you're in a very rough spot right now, hm? of course you don't have to attempt suicide to get help. there is plenty of help available for people who are as upset as you seem to be right now, and you don't have to harm yourself to qualify for that help.
bruised, is anyone around who knows how you are and have been lately? are you maybe seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist already who you can contact right now? is there anyone in your family, a parent or a relative or other adult you can trust who can help you right now?
if no one is around who can assist you in finding help or has helped you in the past, and you feel like you are about to hurt yourself, by all means, please get the phone and call 911. they will send help asap.
otherwise, see whether talking to someone around you can help you get through this weekend. once the weekend is over, seek help at a resource in your area. you or whoever is assisting you can find local places for help in your yellow pages.
reach out for someone in real life, bruised. i know it's hard to ask for help when you're upset, but it'll help you immensely, i am sure.

Hey hun. You do not need to attempt suicide to get in a psychiatric hospital. If you're feeling strong inclinations to do so, you should talk to a psychiatrist/psych hospital immediately.
Please do not try to commit suicide. It does not help anything, and you need to keep on living.
You can also call 1-800-SUICIDE if you feel very suicidal. I've never called, but I have friends that have, and they say it helps a lot!
So, please go talk to someone right now. You can and need to get help for this. Good luck hun

Um... I think seeking help with a specialist or someone you can trust is the best thing to do but...believe me, being sent directly to a hop for such intense treatment isn't something you can decide nor something I find very healthy... It's something a lot harder to take than it sounds... But finding someone you trust to talk about it would be the best...

My friend was suicidial, and everytime she felt like that, she would go straight to the clinic, without actually hurting herself before. So it is possible. It looks like you are trying to help yourself, so keep it up and you'll find your way back to happiness and out of the pain.
Love, Leni

Hey does anyone know what to expect when you get there? I really need to go, should have gone last night before I had my fit, but my dad said that they give you a full physical, meaning they will in some way or another touch me, and I HATE when people youch me anywhere. Sorry if that sounds weird...

When i was admitted to a regular hospital for psychiatric problems, i didn't have a full physical. Their main focus was my suicidal thoughts and depression. There was a small discussion about my family's medical history and if there'd been a history of depression in me or my family. I think i had vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse ... etc) taken when i first got there (i went through the ER), and later had blood tests taken to see if there was another medical problem causing the depression.
Do you not have annual physicals anyway? Why are you so willing to have your mental health taken care of and not your physical health? W/ me it was the other way around ... I would've had 15 PAP tests as long as no one asked me about my "feelings"
In all seriousness tho, if you do need mental help, you need to get it ... And if you're serious about it, a physical exam isn't going to stop you. Are you scared someone is going to touch you inappropriately? You can request to have a nurse present, or a family member or friend, if that makes you more comfortable.

Good question. I have no idea really, but I have this phobia of being touched anywhere be it my arm, leg or vagina. It absolutely terrifies me and I avoid it whenever possible... I think it has do something with stories my Mom told me about abuse with my real father. I think I'd be better with a female doc.
But what you said makes since. I'd rather be horrifed for a little while than have this stupid depression and wait til I off myself.
