So, somethings bothering me tonight (this morning?) and I wanted to get the opinion of those who wish to give it on my current situation.
So, my best friend (who I live and work with) Mike and I are about to celebrate our birthdays this weekend.(mine's the 23rd and his is the 25th)We've been looking forward to this for months, and he asked me about a month ago what I truly wanted for my birthday. I confided in him that I have always wanted a ring and have never owned one. The moment he found that out, he promised me I'd have a ring on my birthday. Being the girl that I am, I have been so excited about it, not just because it's a ring, but that it was coming from one of the people I most care about. I have big plans for his gift, and intend on spending the next couple of days getting it together.
Well, we both got paid today, and he came in with a new book shelf and new things to build for his room and informed me that he had spent his entire check. I know for a fact he hasn't bought me anything for my birthday, and he didn't really seem to care that he blew his entire check just three days before our big weekend. I'm really crushed and hurt by this, but am I justified in this? I just feel really let down.

It's okay for you to feel let down. You had high hopes and you made all the preparations, and he went and did something selfish. You have every right to be disappointed in your friend.
Tell your friend that you had high hopes for your b-day weekend, and you're a little disappointed that he's not going to "participate fully." Don't whine about not getting a ring, though, 'cause that'll make oyu sound greedy. But go with the angle that you andhe had big plans and you were really looking forward to them.
If he's a good friend, he'll accommodate and make up for it soon.
