I like to eat junk food and drink pop at the movies. And watch the movie, of course. Sometimes I'll even hold hands with my boyfriend!

foxy_lil_thang, I don't know whether this has been mentioned to you yet, but posting in all capitals is considered rude at most places on the internet, it is the equivalent of shouting. I noticed that all your posts are in capitals so I just thought I'd let you know.
As for the movies question, we watch the movie. We joke about doing other things, but we never would, probably get kicked out.

My favorite thing to do is go to the movies w/ my best friend and make weird noises throughout the entire movie. Like one time the seat next to me squeeked when you pushed it down, so when the movie got silent i would push it down. and everytime a funny part comes up we laugh weirdly or copy other people's laugh... one time at this realy boring movie we got and and moved over one just to annoy the people behind us... it was really fun!
I also usually always talk through a movie but no one else does,...i guess i'm just weird..lol
as for favorite things to do at the movies, we had a thread once upon a time where a girl wanted to talk about having sex at a movie theater. that was met by a big *veto* because it's illegal and *highly* inappropriate. after all, if i've paid my $9.50 to see the movie, i'm going to be pretty pissed off if there's an amorous couple behind me making some sort of ruckus. And if I was the poor schmoe who gets paid $5.75 to sweep the floors, I'd be pretty pissed off at whoever made that mess in the back row.
Me and my red licorice and large cherry Coke are going to sit somewhere in the middle by the aisle. that's pretty standard for me as far as movies go.

i go to the supermarket or CVS and buy lots and lots of CANDY and depending on what sale is on a BIG bottle of water. i've been seen with a 1/2 quart of water (only 89 cents!)... or 2 reg. size bottles of water. i get all different types of candy, sometimes chips or popcorn (the quarter ones).
good candy for movies: Mr. Goodbars (i loooooove them), chocolate covered peanuts, starbusrts, Raisinets, M&M's (peanut if there arent any chocolate covered peanut or peanut butter is soo yuumy), candy bars (ie. snickers, baby ruth, watchamacallits, etc).
the candy at the store is a LOT less expensive than the movies, so i buy about $5 worth of a candy... and my friend look at me like i have 4 heads casue i get sooo much!
i stuff everything into my schoolbag, and than usually i go to the matinee ($5.50 compares to $9.50)
than i sit down, pull out my water, put my schoolbag in the seat next to me, open everything (so i wont make too much noise opening it during the movie), watch the movie, and eeeeeeaaaaaatttttt!
lol i have to crimp and save what i have... after all my parents only give me $10 for the movies... =)

$9.50 for a movie? That's high-way robbery!
But I guess I'm a bit spoiled. I live 5 minutes away from a drive-in, where it's 7 bucks for a double feature. Triple feature for Labor Day weekend.
In that case, it's all at the discretion of the driver of the car, and they don't care what you bring in or do as long as it doesn't disturb others around you and doesn't require a barbeque and lawn chairs. And your standard list of firearms, bombs, alcohol and such. And they sell hamburgers at the refreshment building.
If there's an annoying person on their cell phone, shut your window! Same for that inconsiderate smoker! The only thing you have to worry about is those darn headlights. Grrrrrrr.

On sort of the same point, it's a bit silly to pay whatever amount for the movies (over here it is SO expensive - $14.50 for a student ticket!) and then waste it by not even watching the movie. You're better off getting your money's worth and staying tuned in, and when you're on your own somewhere else (eg: your home), do whatever you have to. It's then free and won't annoy any other patrons. Everybody wins!

Which cinema do you go to Zanney? I'm pretty sure that Greater Union, Hoyts, and Village have standardised their prices so they're all around $10.50 for a student ticket.
But I love the old twin cinema complex in a town near where I grew up- prices there haven't changed since the 80s (literally)- $4 for a child, $6 for a student/pensioner and $8 for an adult. Plus, they have two $5 days a week.

All of the cinemas in our area are Birch, Carrol and Coyle ones. And although I don't really want to give out my exact location, they're all recently built "Senstadium" ones that I guess they're trying to earn the money back on. My ticket is $14.50 as a student, but everyone else pays adult price - $18!!
Fortunately I don't go to the cinema much anymore...
And excuse my ignorance (I'm still acclimatising), but I've never even heard of a few of the others!

Hmm, well its quite possible that we live in different areas of the country, and therefore have to deal with different cinema conglomerates. I don't think its just the senstadium thing though- the cinemas near me, which are Greater Union, recently upgraded to Senstadium too and the prices only went up $0.50.

Bep, I think I read somewhere you're in Sydney, yes? Anyways, I'm in Queensland, where things aresupposed to be cheaper than NSW, so who knows??
Anyways, the point is, whatever the amount is, you're still paying to go somewhere to go make out when you could go somewhere for that for free. So why waste the cash?
Are you living in a touristy area? Sometimes they hike up the prices because confused tourists who aren't too sure about currency conversion won't know how much they're paying anyway.
And yes, I agree- whether the cost is small or great, I don't need to pay anyone for a space to make out.

This is getting pretty funny - we both obviously have nothing much to do on this sunny Wednesday afternoon
You know, you're probably right. I don't live on the 'coast, but we only ever seem to go to the movies when we're down that way... and that definitely is a touristy area (my odd-ball accent hardly even gets noticed there, which is a nice change!)
Hey, I just realised I haven't anwsered this question. My favorite thing to do at the movies is to eat way too much and drink so much I have to go to the bathroom during the best part! Oh, and I also love telling off people who's phones go off, or who talk incessantly

Hehe, well, unforunately I have a stomach bug on this lovely Wednesday afternoon, which is keeping me indoors and away from work (and I really need the money). And if I didn't have work or sickness, I'd probably be outside, since here in Sydney its the first real Summery weather we've had this season.
And, I shall answer the main question too- my favourite thing to do at the movies (aside from actually watching the movie) is eating peanut M&Ms, smuggled in from Woolworths, because the candy bar is too expensive, and relaxing. There's also a fun game I like to play with my friends during the annoying half hour of advertising that precedes every movie these days. Its quite simple, but I promise you'll find it engrossing if you try it. You simply have to find one of each letter of the alphabet, from A to Z in all the words that come up on screen- and you have to do so before the movie starts. If you don't finish, you can continue with the credits at the end of the film, but its bad form to play the game during.

If the movie isn't very full, and it's at the cheap movie, I'll put my palms over my mouth and cheek and blow very hard, creating a life-like farting noise, when it gets boring and it's not loud. I like to go to the movies with my friends, it's so much fun--we do the most stupid things! Farting noises, talking, getting popcorn tossed at us (even when I'm not doing anything except starring at them), just silly things.

That's frickin' ridiculous! I am not a movie person, and I'm happy for that. I can't sit still during one if I'm with my friends (I'm way too talkative!) and personally, would rather be spending that hour and a half chatting with my friends or doing something else.
When I am at the movies with my friends, though, me and my bestest friend A. do really, really immature things (we're taking advantage of our sophomore status -- we figure once we're seniors that if we act like this we might get sent to a nut house ). When the movie gets real quiet we say things like "Does your Mom still have the ebola virus?" and stupid stuff like that, hehe. Yeah, I'll admit it, we are pretty rude in the theaters and we do get some really "excuse me" ish looks, but once people start asking us to be quiet and once people start getting really annoyed we quit. That's just what we do for fun.
But of course, that's just my opinion.

Midnight movie season started up again. There's this movie theater near campus that shows cult favorites saturdays at midnight for $6. They do raffles for prizes and throw free candy to the audience. it's great! Last saturday was Pulp Fiction (one of my favorite movies of all time). This week is Nation Lampoon's Vacation. The place is always packed, people get rowdy, fans say their favorite lines along with the movie, and everyone has a fun time.

That sounds like a lot of fun gummy. I personally don't like Pulpfiction, I thought it was kinda out there, but then again I haven't seen it for years.
In the movie theaters I usually get my own candy and soda prior and put it in my purse, or a school bag. I can get into movies but if I've seen it before it's hard to watch it again unless I haven't seen it for a while. I do enjoy going to the movies with a guy who I don't really know and joke around like throw jelly beans or ice at each other, too much talking will get me in trouble though .

hey Olive, i know you probably don't have your own license, but if you can hitch a ride with a friend or three, i'd highly recommend hitting up one of the midnight flicks. it's at the Landmark Act I Act II on Shattuck @ Center (near BART). who knows, maybe i'll be one of the ppl in the crowd to throw reese's pieces at you or something
While it is certainly nice when posters here are enthusiastic, it isn't appropriate to keep making posts in a thread that say nothing else but "keep posting." It simply serves no purpose other than to waste bandwidth, which costs us money, and people are going to post if they like, and are not if the do not like, regardless of the spurs.
You've been asked many, many times now not to do this in a few threads, and this is the last reminder. Please stop making those sorts of posts, and post only when you have something of value to say relevant to a given topic. If it continues, we may have to suspend your posting privledges.

I love to go to movies w/ a bunch of my friends when we'll be (usually) the only people in the theatre. Then we goof off and answer the actors' lines and carry on like it's Rocky Horrer or something. It's really good on gloomy days! :P
