The abuse in my life is mostly from my family, my grandmother and mother. Mental illness is rampant, gran is bi-polar and mom denies that she is, though admits her depression. Recently gran told mom that she wanted to kill herself, and mom, who is under a lot of stress normally (working 2 jobs and parenting 4 children)is reacting very badly and seems to be behaving in a bi-polar fashion. I live in Southern California and would disclose more specific geographic info in a non public setting. Mom has contacted her old psychologist (from a former breakdown when she and my father were trying to seperate) and they havn't gotten back to her since thursday morning. Is there any help centers I could be directed to to suggest to my mother, and for myself. We all live in the same house (both of my parents in their rockey relationship, bi-polar gran, and 3 little brothers) and the tension is palatable.
I really don't know what more there is to do other than hope it alll blows over or try and move out. Immediatly I want to help my mother but I've realised that my personality type really conflicts with hers in her hystericle states, and I'm not strong enough right now put myself through that. I know I can't be responsible for her mental health or state, but I want to help somehow, I feel very guilty knowing that if I tryed to talk with her I'd make things much worse for both of our feeling.

ack! wish someone would've ping'd me for this one. San Dimas is in my neck of the woods.
Los Angeles County has a Department of mental Health. They provide counseling and services to all LA County residents. Check out all the resources on their webpage at http://dmh.lacounty.gov
If you ever need to talk, call their 24/7 crisis line 1-800-854-7771
And if your grandmother threatens to kill herself, call 911 right away. Do NOT hesitate. When the medics are called in events like these, they are compelled by law to psychologically evaluate the patient. With a proper evaluation, your grandmother can get the diagnoses and treatment she needs.
