I've always been a daddys girl because we are alot alike and i could talk to him about pretty much everything. The day before my 17th birthday, I found out that my dad has a girlfriend and my parents are filing for divorce. Also, hes in prison right now for dui, hes getting out next week. When he writes, he still acts like before and i dont know how to respond to him. I mean im not really angry at him but im not sad, ive been expecting this divorse for a while. Its just when i think about his girlfriend i dont know i just feel weird. i dont want our relationship to fall apart but i dont know how to talk to him any more. is there anything i can do to break the ice?

Remember that your dad is still your dad. What transpired between your dad and your mom is for them to deal with, not you. As for his girlfriend you are not obliged to like her but good manners dictate that yo u be polite. However, if you can establish a relationship with her all the better as she is now a part of yur dad's life.
