I use a topical "antibiotic" (AKA, there are some antibiotics in my acne medication Clindamyacin) that I use on my face. I use a very small amount, probably 1-3x a week.

Would this effect my birth control? My boyfriend also uses it, in small amounts, but he actually puts some on his groin/penis area for some acne down there occasionally.

We have unprotected sex once in a while, and although I am still really diligent with the pill for these past 8 months, I was wondering if this has the same effect as antibiotics and the pill?

I'm going to take a pregnancy test this weekend just to be sure, since my last risk was 1 1/2 weeks ago. My boobs are feeling tender, and my left (ovary?) area is hurting, so I'm going to check.

HOPEFULLY, I'm not that 1%.

Thank you!

So, the very, very best thing to do, any time you get a new medication, is to make sure your doctor or pharmacist knows about every other medication you use.

That way, they can make sure not to prescribe you anything that would be a problem or, if they think they should anyway, they can let you know what those interactions might be.

Topical antibiotics, though, are not known to interact with BC. In fact, most kinds of even oral antibiotics aren't. But if your doc or pharmacist already knew you used the pill, I can assure you, they'd have let you know of any possible issues.
